:: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why should I buy a BATITECH home?
A. Because the quality of a panelized home or cottage built inside a factory is superior and better controlled. Also, because of shortened time spans for construction, installation and delivery. What separates BATITECH from competitors are quality and reduced waiting time. We can do this without making compromises in quality. BATITECH is a team of construction experts with more than 12 years' experience in manufactured panelized homes. BATITECH is a recognized Novoclimat Sélect builder. We are amongst a few panelized home manufacturers in Quebec to offer R-2000 standards.
Q. How are your houses built?
A. We build our panelized walls and floors in our plant. Every component of our houses are built with dry materials that are kept inside the plant at all times, which keeps them away from humidity, mould and wood-twisting. Unlike conventional on-site construction, quality control inside the plant is thorough and continuous due to ideal working conditions. Once the structure is done, it is transported on a covered trailer to the building location. At the building site, a crane helps to install the wall panels onto the foundation. The roof is then installed. For the most part, walls and roof structures are installed on the foundation in less than 24 hours! The result is a quality-assembled structure that is completely waterproof. The exterior as well as the interior finish are now ready to be completed.
Q. What are the components included in a Bâtikit structure? ?

Q. What is a Chalet-Chic?
A. CHALET-CHIC cottages have a hot and fun design. They are compact, ecological, well-equipped and are delivered on a "ready-to-live" basis. Designed with leisure in mind, the functionnal space is rational and well thought out. The big differences are the design, the use of interior space, taking advantage of exterior light and, of course, the view from many angles. CHALET-CHIC cottages can accomodate 4 to 6 persons. The charm and warmth of natural wood is found in the interior and on the exterior of CHALET-CHIC cottages. The exterior finish of certain models is made of torrified wood. FunBOXX I (TM) and FunBOXX II (TM) cottages are well insolated. All windows and doors have energy efficient double-pane glass. Designed to provide high-end comfort, CHALET-CHIC cottages are surprisingly affordable. They will appeal to the most discriminate buyer.
Q. What do you mean by "ecological construction" of CHALETS-CHICS?
A. In the process of manufacturing CHALET-CHIC (TM) cottages, we try to use products that are the least harmful to the environment. For examples, our torrified wood is an all-natural process, we use high-performance insulation material, water-based paint, natural oils and so forth. Beyond the use of materials, other factors must be taken into consideration particularly with respect to architecture and the natural setting upon which constructions must be built. With respect to housing construction, bad habits were developed by neglecting energy conservation due to rapid industrialization and abundance of petroleum reserves. This meant low energy prices. This trend started in the beginning of the 20th century and accelerated in the latter half of it. We had to build quickly and at least possible costs. Minimal insulation, a few electrical baseboards and a water-heater, that was it! Total energy costs was then a small percentage of a family budget far behind housing, food, clothing and leisure costs. Today, costs in natural ressources and non-renewable primary materials due to scarcity and global warming make it an obligation to design cost-efficient homes. Our ancesters knew how to make these homes by taking advantage of climate and the environment where they would build. By combining traditional know-how with new knowledge and techniques, our CHALETS-CHICS (TM) are designed to consume the least possible energy. The concept of high performance energy housing was developed in the seventies but real applications began in Germany in 1990. Certain criteria were defined and became standards. Our goal is ta attain them. To qualify as a "high performance energy house", the following standards must be met: - Heating requirements must be below 15kwh/m2/per year;
- Air tightness must be close to perfection; this implies rigourous construction techniques and also a more sophisticated ventilation system;
- Total energy demand, including domestic electricity and hot water requirements, must be below 42 kwh/m2/per year;
- Primary energy needs must be below 120 kwh/m2/ per year which implies the use of alternate forms of energy and a heat reclaim & chiller system connected to central ventilation.
Before using the latest techniques, there are a number of efficient architectural solutions that follow pragmatic logic since way back. Whenever possible, we try to follow the following broad principles: - Building by using undulating ground and vegetation to protect from the cold;
- Partially bury the north end of the house;
- Diminish the exposed volume/surface ratio by choosing compact masses over scattered housing developments;
- Position the front-end of the house due south and arrange that living areas are there: living-room and kitchen. To the North side, limit windows to strict lighting requirements and needs.
- Choose a quality rigid insulation without thermal bridging;
- Be meticulous about ventilation; if well-designed, a good system will evacuate excess heat and toxic air in summer and will heat the atmosphere in winter;
- Create an entrance seal to limit outside air intake.
Respect of these broad principles and in-factory production have forced us to be more creative. This has lead to the introduction of our CHALETS-CHICS (TM). Money invested to purchase them provides excellent return on investment. For the owners who live in them, overall comfort, rooms well designed with ample lighting, permanent filtered interior air, good insulation and constant temperature inside day and night. On top of all this, a contribution to a better environment. We believe that a superior construction system and the quality of our cottages constitute the best solution for the bioclimatic approach that we favour.
Q. What can we expect in terms of delivery?
A. Generally and during season, on-site construction work will begin six (6) to eight (8) weeks after the signing of the purchasing contract. Following that, things move quickly. If your foundation is ready to receive the structure, floors, walls and roof can be erected in less than 24 hours in most cases. If they are under the responsibility of BATITECH, exterior and interior finishing are a matter of hours or days.
Q. Can we choose certain materials that are not included in your list of "BATITECH Standards" for our home?
A. Yes, of course. You can choose any type of product or material that is available on the market. Our Sales Representatives are available to assist you and to help you in making these choices.
Q. Can you build homes according to buyer’s specifications?
A. At BATITECH, we can design any type of home according to your wishes. We have models to suggest but you can submit any existing designs from a sketch, a photo or a plan. A member of our design team can help you create, from computerized models, the exclusive home of your dreams into reality!
Q. What is the insulated value of your walls and ceilings?
A. The insulated value of our Novoclimat walls is R24.5 and for our R-2000 walls, it’s R29. For our ceilings, the insulated value with Novoclimat is R41 and with R-2000, it's R51.
Q. What kind of warranty comes with Batitech houses ?
A. Houses built and sold by BATITECH are guaranteed against any defects or faulty workmanship for one (1) year, or five (5) years against construction or structural hidden defects starting from the delivery date.

For the affordable, high-quality CHALET-CHIC, parcels of land are available at Lac Clermoutier in the Lanaudière region just 70 minutes north-east of Montreal.
Q. What are your construction steps?
A. Receiving the Materials: the materials used to build our panels are all oven-dry first quality materials that respect the highest standards. When the materials arrive in the plant, the entire trailer enters the building and discharges the materials. The materials are then stocked in the plant. They are kept at all times inside the plant so that they are never submitted to humidity or bad weather. Cutting: according to a precise cutting list determined by the technical department, the person in charge of the cutting proceeds to cut the components that will further be used to build the wall structure. Assembly: the walls and window frame components are then placed on the components table. Once assembled, the components are placed inside the wall structure on a frame table. Using rails, we then move the frame on the squaring table to make sure that the wall is perfectly square. Squaring: to ensure that the wall stay square, we anchor by covering it with an Aspenite sheet that is glued AND nailed. Air barrier and furring are then installed. If the wall is sold without insulation, the wall is then placed on the trailer. Insulation: if you order insulated walls, the windows can also be installed in the plant. The wall is then lifted and placed on a trolley and we place it on a conveyer so that we can install the insulation, vapour barrier, windows (if necessary), furring and interior gypsum. The completed wall is then placed on the trailer. Floors: on a floor table, we place the floor joists of your choice (2" x 10", wood crosses, metal or "i-shaped") and cover them with 5/8" thick floor veneer that is bevelled. The floor table is also use to built Bâticlick roofs. When building roofs, a self-adhesive membrane is placed in the veneer and asphalt shingles are then installed. Delivery: before proceeding to delivery, a tarpaulin in installed on the trailer so that the panels remain dry at all times during transport. The panels are then transported on the construction site and installed using a boom truck. According to the type of wall chosen by the customer, the appropriate inspection is then carried. For example, if the client chooses to buy R-2000 or Energuide walls, every wall is meticulously sealed as the installation goes along in order to meet the applicable standards.
Q. Is the BATITECH factory or plant open to visitors?
A. Provided that a visit is planned a few days in advance, our Sales Representatives will be most happy to show you around at our Cabano plant and to answer your questions.
